Glaucoma

Did you know that Glaucoma can affect your peripheral vision or the vision you have out of the sides and corners of your eyes? To test this, the doctor may order a visual field (VF) test to see exactly where you are developing blind spots.

During a visual field test a patient focuses on a single dot straight ahead in a machine like the one pictured below. One eye is patched to allow the other eye to focus and be tested. Lights will then flash all around the patient in various places to test where your vision loss, if any, is occurring. When the patient sees a light flash they have a button to push that allows the machine to record where the patient has and hasn’t seen the lights flash.

The best way to know if you are at risk of developing glaucoma is to schedule your comprehensive eye exam.

Macula Degeneration Supplement

A healthy macula, the light-sensing area of the eye, is essential for color and clear, crisp detail vision while driving, reading, watching TV, and other daily functions. Although aging increases the probability of macula degeneration; research reveals that “free radicals” generated by UV rays, air pollution, chemical toxins and blue screen devices are the cell-damaging molecular culprits.

Since there is no way to avoid these “free radicals,” the best way to prevent and even reverse this age-related macula problem is an abundance of carotenoids.  Saffron has two of the most powerful carotenoids on earth and has been shown to fight these “free radicals” and significantly improve vision, color and details.

Due to this significant improvement in vision, we now offer and recommend a supplement called Saffron MD which includes 20mg of saffron extract, and features two powerful antioxidants, lutein and zeaxanthin. These two super carotenoids help protect the macula by neutralizing these “free radicals.”  Saffron MD combines saffron, lutein, and zeaxanthin for a complete supplement that supports and improves eye health and function.

TRIPLE CAROTENOID FORMULA

MacuHealth is the only nutritional vision supplement containing all three macular carotenoids: Lutein, Meso-Zeaxanthin and Zeaxanthin in the same 10:10:2 ratio that makes up macular pigment.

CLINICALLY PROVEN TO RESTORE MACULAR PIGMENT

MacuHealth is specially formulated and clinically proven to rebuild and maximize macular pigment over a lifetime, resulting in enhanced visual performance and aid in the treatment and prevention of age-related macular degeneration

Color Contact Lenses

Color contact lenses are a fun and exciting way to change up your appearance. You may prefer a subtle enhancement with a lens that is a different shade of your natural color, or a more striking contrast by using a lens with a vibrant, new color. Regardless of your prescription strength or taste in color, you will need an eye exam to ensure you receive a prescription for the correct curvature, strength and thickness for your eyes. Failure to acquire the correct prescription can result in infections, cuts, bacteria under the lens, scratching, etc.. which can hurt your vision or cause blindness. It is illegal to purchase color contacts without a prescription.

Beware of color contacts that display uneven edges, thickness, or foreign-looking packaging.

Natural Eye Color

Many counterfeit contact lenses are sold online and in small boutique stores. Even if your prescription is 0.00 you still must have an exam and be properly fitted for color contact lenses in order to reduce the risk of infection and possible damage to the eye. Wearing a contact lens with an incorrect prescription can result in eye strain, headaches, and worsening your myopia. Contact lenses are not a “one size fits all” product.

Air Optix brand Sterling Gray Colored Contact lenses

Color contacts can be fun and functional. Most prescriptions can be obtained in colors that lighten or darken your eye color, or make your eyes appear larger or smaller, or dramatically change your color altogether. Color contacts are just as safe as regular contacts as long as you use them properly and get them fitted properly. So have go have fun and try using color contact lenses to give you a new look!!!

Does Your Child Need Glasses?

Before you say no, let’s look at the statistics. 1 in 4 children need glasses and 60% of learning disabilities have been associated with vision problems. Children often don’t realize that something looks blurry or fuzzy or don’t have the words to express the trouble they are having. Performing an eye exam beginning at age one and then annually after that is the best way to diagnose and treat eye sight issues before they become worse or lead to other problems such as poor performance in school. Eye exams make a huge difference in ensuring 20/20 vision in your child but they also help to ensure the health of your child’s eye. Some medical conditions effecting the eye are often found in young children and should be assessed and treated by a professional. Conditions such as diabetes are frequently accompanied by vision impairment and should be monitored closely to prevent further deterioration. Some signs of vision problems in children include a short attention span, frequent headaches, sitting closer than necessary to the television, rubbing their eyes, eyes not looking in the same direction (lazy eye), or difficultly reading. If your child exhibits any combination of these symptoms they should be evaluated quickly to correct the issue and keep it from getting worse. Many schools no longer offer a yearly vision screening and those that do are not always equipped to properly determine the acuity of your child’s sight. Adding eye exams to your child’s physical assessment should be done in preparation for any sport or activities as vision is imperative to hand eye coordination necessary for these types of endeavors.  There are special glasses made for sports that are resilient, protective, and still stylish. Most children who need glasses are apt to wear them as it assists with the games they want to participate and excel in. Parents who don’t require corrective lenses may expect their children to have perfect eye sight as well but, while genetics can play a part in vision issues, this is not always the case. Our eyes and our vision direct all of our actions. Please ensure that your child has their best chance for success in life by having their eyes checked early and often.
